A global challenge: textile waste and the difficulty of recycling
<\/span><\/p>

The reality is that sorting, collecting and recycling used or surplus garments<\/strong> is becoming increasingly difficult due to the presence of mixtures of synthetic and natural fibres<\/strong>, which limits the viability of recycling in many cases and means that a significant proportion of the waste ends up in landfill.<\/p>

This problem is exacerbated in a context where the environmental impact of the textile sector is growing and where the industry needs alternatives that provide solutions when recycling is not technically feasible<\/strong>.<\/p>

What is NERIDE\u00ae Biodegradable?<\/h2>

NERIDE\u00ae Biodegradable<\/strong> is a nylon 6 (PA6) yarn<\/strong> developed by NUREL to offer a more sustainable end-of-life cycle<\/strong> in scenarios where textiles end up in landfill or in contact with soil.<\/p>

From a product perspective, the objective is clear: to maintain textile performance throughout its useful life<\/strong> and, when the material can no longer be recovered by conventional means, to allow it to biodegrade in biologically active environments such as soil or landfill<\/strong>.<\/p>

Furthermore, NUREL frames this development within NUREL FIBERS<\/strong><\/a>, the division specialising in synthetic fibres and the transformation of nylon into high-performance materials.<\/p>

How it works: biodegradation without \u2018oxo-degradation\u2019<\/strong><\/h3>

A key point is that NERIDE\u00ae Biodegradable is not oxo-degradable<\/strong>: it does not break down due to oxygen or UV exposure. Instead, it is designed to biodegrade only when it comes into contact with an active biological environment<\/strong>.<\/p>

From an industrial standpoint, the yarn is designed to fit established manufacturing routes: it can be processed using conventional PA6 finishing pathways<\/strong> and is intended to maintain PA6 physical properties and shelf life during use.<\/p>

Biodegradation performance: standards and results<\/strong><\/h3>
NERIDE\u00ae Biodegradable is designed to biodegrade in both aerobic (soil) and anaerobic (landfill) environments, with references to recognised test standards.<\/div>
