on the research and development of <strong>advanced technologies for saccharification and the production of high-quality fermentable second-generation sugars<\/strong>. This project aims to create <strong>new biopolymers from industrial by-products<\/strong>, an initiative that has received co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the period 2021-2027.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">At the heart<\/span> <strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">of Bio2gen<\/strong><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\"> lies its commitment to sustainability and innovation. The initiative is dedicated to the production of <\/span><strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">sustainable and bio-based polymers<\/strong><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">, intended for<\/span> <strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">packaging manufacturing in the agri-food industry.<\/strong><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">. These packages seek not only to match but to exceed the performance of conventional materials, offering a sustainable and efficient alternative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The bio-based materials promoted by <strong>Bio2gen<\/strong> are derived from <strong>high-quality second-generation sugars<\/strong>, which are extracted from industrial lignocellulosic by-products through advanced biotechnological processes. These materials have the advantage of not competing with food resources and significantly contribute to reducing the environmental impact associated with the packaging industry. Moreover, in line with efforts to promote a circular economy, these new materials are designed to meet the most demanding standards of biodegradability.<\/p>\n<p>The implementation of these innovative products in the market is seen as an exceptional opportunity for <strong>regional economic development<\/strong>, promoting integrated and interdisciplinary supply chains. This project aligns perfectly with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially those related to sustainable economic growth and responsible industry.<\/p>\n<p>To date, <strong>Bio2gen<\/strong> has completed two crucial phases. <strong>The first phase<\/strong> focused on the feasibility analysis of various raw materials, such as citrus waste and grasses, ultimately identifying orange fiber as the most promising material. <strong>The second phase has been dedicated to the development of new second-generation biopolymers<\/strong>, suitable for bag manufacturing. Films for fruit and vegetable bags with a <strong>60% bio-based content<\/strong> have been produced, and disintegration trials with 20-micron films under domestic composting conditions have begun.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>This project not only represents a significant advancement in the search for sustainable solutions for the packaging industry but also reaffirms NUREL&#8217;s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and regional economic development, with the support of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2021-2027.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div
