PROMYDE® FLX and the New Era of Elastomeric Polyamides

05/02/2026

In the world of technical design, cold is not just a temperature; it is an engineering challenge. When temperatures drop, conventional materials often become rigid and brittle.

At NUREL, with more than 50 years of experience in polymer science, we asked ourselves: how can we push performance further when external conditions try to hold it back?

The answer is the second milestone of our Year of Innovation 2026: introducing PROMYDE® FLX.

What is PROMYDE® FLX? The Perfect Synergy of PEBA

As part of our new high-performance polyamide portfolio (PROMYDE Advanced Materials), PROMYDE® FLX is a series of polyether block amide copolymers (PEBA) that combine the mechanical robustness of polyamide with the elasticity of polyether.

This unique chemical structure results in a material with exceptional flexibility, resilience and impact resistance, while maintaining its properties even in environments where other elastomers fail.

Competitive Advantages: PEBA vs. TPU

For dynamic applications, material selection is critical. When comparing PROMYDE® FLX (PEBA) with conventional TPU, the technical advantages are clear:

  • Extreme cold resistance: maintains its flexibility in freezing conditions down to -60°C, whereas TPU tends to harden significantly.

  • Superior lightweight performance: with a significantly lower density than TPU, it enables high-performance designs without adding weight.

  • Enhanced energy return and fatigue resistance: offers greater elastic recovery and superior resistance to fatigue under prolonged cyclic loading.

  • Low moisture absorption: unlike more hygroscopic polymers, it is less affected by ambient humidity.

Applications: Where Performance Cannot Be Compromised

Thanks to its excellent balance of lightweight performance and durability, PROMYDE® FLX is the material of choice for highly demanding sectors:

  1. Sports equipment: ideal for ski boots that require consistent flexibility in snowy conditions and for high-rebound sports footwear.

  2. Medical components: its flexibility and chemical resistance make it suitable for technical medical devices.

  3. Industrial applications: components requiring resistance to oils, greases and hydrocarbons under dynamic operating conditions.

A 2026 Driven by Innovation

At NUREL, our vertical integration—from in-house polymerisation to advanced compounding—enables us to provide tailor-made solutions where conventional engineering plastics reach their limits.

PROMYDE® FLX is only the second of the 12 innovation milestones we will unveil this year. We continue to work towards making strength, stability and flexibility the foundations of your next projects.
