High-Precision Shotshell Wads for Hunting and Sporting Cartridges
The shotshell wad is a high-precision component manufactured through plastic injection moulding. It guides the pellets (lead, steel or bismuth) through the barrel, ensuring their separation from the gunpowder and playing a key role in the cartridge’s ballistic. Upon firing, the wad is expelled alongside the pellets and can travel more than 30 meters, posing a challenge for waste management.
Shotshell wads are high-performance components designed to provide excellent flexibility and elastic recovery, ensuring superior patterning and ballistic performance for both hunting and sporting cartridges.
THE PROBLEM
Each year, 3 billion wads are produced globally. Conventional hunting wads, made from non-biodegradable plastics (LDPE), contribute significantly to the buildup of plastic waste in nature, impacting wildlife and ecosystems.
These conventional plastic wads used in hunting cartridges are essentially single-use items with challenging environmental management and may face potential bans under SUP (Single-Use Plastics) regulation due to their negative ecological impact.
