BIODEGRADABLE BIOPOLYMERS FOR AGRICULTURAL MULCHING

TWO GRADES ADAPTABLE FOR DIFFERENT TYPES OF CROPS

NUREL introduces two new INZEA biopolymer references for the production of agricultural mulch film.

The use of agricultural mulch film is crucial as it facilitates weed control, reduces irrigation water consumption, decreases soil erosion, and increases soil temperature, thereby improving early production.

The new INZEA materials, specifically designed for agricultural mulches, simplify plastic waste management and prevent the generation of microplastics, contributing to more sustainable agriculture.

Advantages of Certified Biodegradable Agricultural Mulch

INZEA biopolymers for the production of agricultural mulches offer numerous advantages for all types of crops and are soil biodegradable according to the European Standard EN 17033, ensuring proper biodegradation without harming the environment.

Benefits of Biodegradable Agricultural Mulches:

  • Elimination of Collection Costs: Being biodegradable, mulch films avoid the costs associated with film collection.
  • Higher Yield and Quality: They improve yields and crop quality, providing savings in water and fertilizers.
  • Weed and Pest Control: Effective in controlling weeds and pests.
  • Soil Protection: They protect soil structure and help maintain its integrity.

Additional Advantages:

  • Reduction of Microplastics: They help reduce the accumulation of microplastics in agricultural soils, unlike conventional plastics that are not always fully removed.
  • Soil Conservation: Certified biodegradable agricultural mulch films do not cause the loss of the agricultural soil’s top layer.
  • Agronomic Efficiency: Demonstrated efficiency similar to non-biodegradable mulching films in terms of soil temperature and weed reduction.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Saves labour, time, and money by eliminating the need to retrieve plastic mulch.

Technical Advantages of INZEA for Biodegradable Agricultural Mulches

  • Performance and Stability: INZEA offers excellent performance and stability in conventional blown extrusion lines used for traditional polymers, achieving a wide range of thicknesses (from 8 to 100 microns).
  • Compatibility with Masterbatches: Good compatibility with compostable black masterbatches. NUREL offers INZEA grades for agricultural mulch film production also in black colour*.
  • Efficient Mechanization: Excellent mechanization in the field using standard machinery at the same speed.

Two INZEA Grades Adapted to Different Moisture Requirements

INZEA offers two distinct grades of biopolymers for agricultural mulches, adapted to various moisture needs according to the type of crop, water conditions, crop duration, and geographical location. These grades ensure optimal and specific biodegradation in each type of soil.

Characteristics of INZEA F08M and F09M Grades:

  • Adaptability to Climatic Conditions: Depending on the type of crop and geographical area, INZEA mulching films are resistant to different percentages of humidity and climatic conditions.
  • Optimal Biodegradation: INZEA’s biodegradable SOIL materials are designed to ensure efficient on-site biodegradation, adapting to the specific conditions of each crop. After harvest, these films can be ground and incorporated into the soil, improving its quality and reducing waste.

With INZEA grades, farmers can be confident they are using a sustainable and effective solution that enhances crop performance and protects the environment.

Soil Biodegradation Certification

The INZEA grades developed and used to produce agricultural mulching films comply with the EN 17033 standard, “Plastics – Biodegradable mulch films for use in agriculture and horticulture – Requirements and test methods for biodegradable agricultural films.” This certification guarantees that INZEA films biodegrade properly in the soil without causing environmental harm.

INZEA offers several grades of biopolymers for the production of mulching films, certified by DIN CERTCO according to the EN 17033 standard and it is also certified OK Biodegradable SOIL by TÜV Austria.

INZEA FOR BIODEGRADABLE MULCHING

WHAT IS INZEA

The world is changing and the plastics industry has to adapt to a new situation where sustainability is a priority for governments, businesses and consumers. INZEA® is our response to our customers’ demand for more sustainable plastic materials.

INZEA is a range of biopolymers which can replace traditional plastics in different applications such as bags, mono-use items and packaging, with the advantage of being biodegradable and compostable.

INZEA product range is obtained from renewable sources and is designed to return to nature by different disposal methods like industrial & home composting, or by biodegradation in different environments.
